Jabu Workshop Tampa

On October 14th I had a great opportunity to attend Jason Buff’s Workshop in Tampa at Andy Martin’s studio, a beautifully rustic building in South Tampa. The class was scheduled from 10am to 5pm, though Jason and the host Andy Martin simply allowed us to shoot well into the night. A crew of beautiful, and talented models came and went through out the day, and night. I shot from approximately 10am to 9pm when I realized the Buccaneers were playing a nationally televised Thursday Night game. Everyone continued to shoot into the night. Since we shot most of the day Jason scheduled a Zoom call to dive deep into his workflow. The Zoom call was about 2 hours, and was incredibly interesting to see a dramatic portrait master work.

Jason Buff’s workflow is significantly different than mine, and likely something I may adopt as I progress.

My high level workflow is Lightroom -> Photoshop -> Lightroom. Doing most of my adjustments in Lightroom, and occasionally using Frequency Separation in Photoshop when needed.

Jason Buff’s workflow is Adobe Bridge -> Camera Raw -> Photoshop. When he initially opens Photoshop he uses Camera Raw for some exposure adjustments, and then selects “Open as Object” which then allows you to re-open Camera Raw to make exposure adjustments as you edit the portrait in photoshop. Learned a lot more, and couldn’t be more happy with what I paid to attend. The amount of time we had to shoot alone was worth the price. Jason is very down to earth, and I really appreciated all the work he put into the workshop which was simply an all day event. I highly recommend attending a Jason Buff workshop. Jason has workshops through out the United States, and in Cancun, Mexico.
